Comcast is a business that has been sorrounding for nearly 50 second childhood. It's roots are humble--beginning as a cable provider in a town in Mississippi--and it has grown to an international company that pdq provides cable, internet and telephone services to millions of customers worldwide. The corporation has expanded internally and wrapped up many Seam projects, mergers and acquisitions.
Origins
In 1963, Ralph J. Roberts, Daniel Aaron and Julian A. Brodsky got well-organized and took over Comcast in Tupelo, Mississippi, as American Cable Systems. When Roberts front bought the partnership, it offered individual five channels and had peerless 1,500 subscribers. Although the society grew, it did not panoply the mart penetration plausible the owners hoped for, so six second childhood consequent they moved on to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where the convention was incorporated and was officially named Comcast Society.
Expansion in the United States
Philadelphia proved a yet else densely populated world for Comcast to office in. Comcast establish up cable franchises in diverse suburbs and minimized costs by running these franchises cool. After saturating the Philadelphia bazaar, Comcast founded cable services in Florida and next purchased Muzak franchises in Dallas, San Diego, Detroit and Hartford. Comcast continued to expand its services throughout the state.
Expansion Abroad
The fundamental Comcast abroad expansion came in 1983 when, in alliance with the British partnership Landbroke, it began establishing cable networks in the London suburbs. The motivating constituent to move overseas was that the majority of network rights in the USA had been claimed at this point and only slightly profitable opportunities remained. CMCSA is class A common stock while CMCSK is class A special common stock. The only difference between these two is that CMCSA has voting power in the company, even though both types of shares represent the same amount of ownership in the company. Comcast also pays a quarterly dividend.
Comcast would later work with major companies including Sprint and Microsoft to further develop cell phone technologies. Comcast also dove into the internet service area with purchases of Adelphia and partnerships with companies like Sony.
Stock
Comcast stock is publicly traded on the NASDAQ stock market under the symbols CMCSK and CMCSA. Comcast remained an almost exclusively cable company through 1987.
